The Sports Development Unit supports the system of local coaches providing specialised instruction. We also work with other agencies to encourage and support international sports. Additionally, the Sports Development Unit works with community sports clubs to encourage family and community use of facilities.

 

 

Our Mission

We will advance amateur sport & recreation for all from leisure activity to athletic excellence, and strengthen the significant contribution that sport and recreation makes towards the enhancement of the quality of life for the total community.

 

The strategic objectives of the Sport section are:

  • To work with National Sports Governing Bodies (NSGB's) and establish a national system of effective sports development and management
  • To work with NSGB's to encourage family and community use of sports facilities
  • To support the creation of a system of local coaches to provide specialised instruction
  • To support, through grants, community organisations concerned with sport
  • To assist with the upgrading of sports facilities
  • To ensure participation and exposure of our young people at local and international competitions, conferences and educational forums related to sport
  • To work with other agencies to encourage and support international sports participation in Bermuda

Overview
The Sports Development section of the Department of Youth, Sport & Recreation is divided into three sub-divisions - the Department's Sport Facilities Management, Sports Development, and Sports Incentives & Awards. The Sports Development Unit is supervised by the Senior Sports Development Officer who is assisted by the Sports Development Officer, the Administrative Assistant, and thirteen other full and part-time staff.
